Herb visits… Wardour Mews

It is easy to overlook Wardour Mews; it escaped our attention until some years ago when we read about it in Harry Shapiro's Waiting For The Man. In the 1960s this grubby little backwater was home to a handful of fly-by-night clubs and coffee bars – The Casino, The Take Five, The Granada and The Limbo Club among them – which we documented in our map of 1960s London, Wish You Were There. Today the wonderful DM Buttons occupies a basement which was once a club, and the coffee bars are all gone, but still the street holds onto its sense of mystery.
