About our guides

We make our travel guides the old-fashioned way. We write and research in-house or with the aid of trusted locals, reading old guide books and welcoming the opportunity to revive old friendships in far-flung locales in the aid of on-the-ground knowledge.

This is a time-consuming and costly process, for which we accept no advertising on our website or in our publications, and no free meals while we’re on our travels. However, if the opportunity arises, we are glad of assistance with places to stay, since we don’t cover hotels in our publications. All this means that what we include are the places and things we like and feel deserve the reader’s attention.

The maps are litho-printed in England on 100 per cent recycled paper. This is a slower and more costly process than digital printing, but we feel the difference in quality makes it worthwhile.
